FRIGHT, oil on Ouiji board |

Looking, pondering, wondering, seeking.... trying to answer, or invite, the difficult question; attain the elusive goal. My art work and my occupation are intertwined more than perhaps they should be. As a museum professional, administering cultural facilities and curating exhibitions of numerous kinds, I constantly strive to achieve one goal after another. Likewise, my drawings and paintings most often depict something or someone attempting to achieve a goal, often a difficult or unreachable objective, even if it is the simplest of tasks. On some occasions I’ll turn toward the antithesis of achievement and depict the torn down or threatened, as in historical, political or environmental preservation. These are still based on the idea of endeavored objectives. On closer inspection one might also find an underlying passion for the media; bits, pieces, nuances within the work that take on a quality reflecting the pleasure experienced in making a mark or a paint stroke or simply smelling the unique odor of red, blue or yellow… those too are goals achieved. More than just illustrations, these works represent the individual in all of us as we follow the right side, left side and middle of the path that makes up our life’s journey. |
